Adapt or Perish

Copper smithing and Basketry—two ancient crafts shaped by hands, time, and place. Individually, each tells a story of patience, skill, and cultural memory. Together, they become something entirely new.

Copper, forged by fire and rhythm, carries strength and permanence. Basketry, coiled strand by strand, holds softness, flexibility, and flow. When these materials meet, contrast becomes harmony: metal bends to organic forms, and fibres gain structure through copper’s embrace. The result is a dialogue between elements, traditions, and generations.

Both crafts are endangered—not because they lack beauty, but because they demand slowness in a fast world. By combining them, this work honours the makers who came before, while reimagining how these skills can live today. It’s preservation through transformation; respect through reinvention.

Craft is not static. It evolves when we listen, experiment, and care deeply about what we inherit. Every stitch, every hammer mark, is an act of remembrance—and a step toward keeping these traditions alive

Her aim is to start conversations to nudge the world to be kinder, more sustainable and filled with joy. Each of her works has a tale to tell, a question to ask or a pleasure to share. Some celebrate aspects of life that have brought happiness; others are darker and demand change.
